What Is Video Podcasting
Video podcasting is the distribution of on demand video content that
uses RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds and software capable of reading
the RSS feeds. Each video podcast publisher has a unique syndication
file that is used to distinguish their content from other content
publishers and present the most current content available.
Anyone with an Internet connection and access to a web host that allows
media file hosting can distribute video podcasts. There are also
several media hosting companies that offer free Video Podcast hosting.
The original podcasting concept was envisioned by
Adam Curry. Users could subscribe to audio media files and download the
material to portable electronic media players, such as the IPod.
Video podcasting does not require special server distribution software
such as Internet broadcasting does, and there are no technical
restrictions on the types of encoding formats.
